The mission of this site is media criticism and reform. It was started in September 2014 by a group of expats living in Russia who felt that coverage of Russia is biased and inaccurate. We received a huge response from volunteers, mostly in the US and Europe. That the media is seriously malfunctioning regarding Russia is widely evident.
But the problem goes well beyond this. The problem is media control by a few corporations and interest groups, and their close ties with governments and business interests. Instead of challenging, questioning, and fostering open discussion, they tend to promote those interests.
A free press is the eyes and ears of our democracies. If it is co-opted, we citizens, and our elected leaders, cannot make wise decisions. We are growing by leaps and bounds, and by crowdfunding and direct fundraising, and ever more volunteer activity, we will expand to topics beyond Russia.
All media organizations are reporting from their own world view. Some call this political alignment, some editorial leaning and, and some media bias. We call them Narratives.
Sites are promoting the local Russian Establishment and are usually against the Western Coalition. They can be politically aligned to liberal, conservative, progressive or any other way.
We’ve done research on who owns or funds the site so you can learn easier about possible funding bias or conflicts of interests.
owner is a person, a company or an organization which hasn’t received outside funding
The reason we show relations to CFR, Bilderberg, Trilateral Commission and Chatham House is because there was a study made by Swiss Propaganda Research. They found out that many western news media have relations to those organizations.
